Lady Chapp with her Presenting foal, Stanley

Lady Chapp and her Presenting foal, Stanley

Its been a sad week at the yard, and tonight’s post is dedicated to our lovely broodmare Lady Chapp who we had to have put to sleep yesterday. In a unique paddock accident she had slipped and cracked some vertebra’s in her neck – despite several weeks on box rest and numerous vet visits she was not improving and there was no option but to let her go. She was ‘the jewel in our crown’ – a most beautiful mare with a wonderful nature and she has left us a Robin des Champs colt and a Presenting colt – and Lady Buttons bred by Keith and Jayne Sivills when

Lady Buttons at Aintree

they owned her. She was not in foal this time, the only saving grace. Lady Buttons will be flying the flag for her this year – she was Lady Chapp’s first foal and she was just beaten in the Mares bumper at Aintree following two facile bumper wins. She has had a year off and we hope she will be back to her best when she returns – she has tons of ability.

It’s a full news report tonight..X factor is moderate this year so not missing much! It was time for Bertie Blake to press on today and he worked upsides 127 rated Nautical Nitwit and went well, his regular rider Peter confirming later how much he had come on, We are really excited about running him in the New Year, he will make his debut sometime in January – his Partnership is now full.

On the same video we also have Man in Black who is just getting going after a long time off with a tendon.

Transient Bay (pictured above)  is schooling again on Tuesday – Owners you have been sent his plans for the month ahead and an invitation to join us on Tuesday morning at 8am, others will be schooling as well and we have Paddy Aspell coming in alongside Adam Nicol who will be race-riding again very shortly. Horses most likely to be in action jumping on Tuesday morning are:  Transient Bay, Eastview Boy, Sakhee’s City, Cleve Cottage & Courtown Oscar.

Simon and phil were busy with the jumps today

Christmas Plans…

Big Rob

There have been some amazing mornings here recentley and the weather had been so kind until the rain the last few days..this is Big Rob pictured with his view of the Cleveland Hills. He is a lovely big 3 year old who will be making his hurdling debut in late January but this huge horse is likely to need time and it will be as a chaser that we see the best of him.

Enlighten Me in the morning sunrise – she makes her Southwell debut on Tuesday

Man in Black with Julie today

Rocky Two as enthusistic as ever…if only he was as keen at the end of his races!

Kelly with North Island by Sholokov who will be making his debut over Christmas – 25% FOR SALE.

Old Borough cup winner ‘Platinum’ returns…

Everyone knows this boy is back home – and he is such a character its no hardship to have him  on the yard again, he was such a star for us. Mr P is a lively ride however, and is pretty good at bucking – Sam had to sit tight the first day back but he was much better the last 2 days.  It is hoping that with regular work,  he might be found another  home with a rider who can cope with him. His legs aren’t brilliant for racing but he  would do a normal job with no bother. If he doesn’t find the right home we wouldn’t rule out running him again if the legs stay okay….watch this space.

Youngsters and resters….

We like to keep the young  horses not in work in barns if we can, and these lucky ladies are having a nice time this winter keeping warm and dry. Its more social for them and they can exercise freely.

Dares to Dream

This stunning looking filly has  now come into a box from the barn and began her education today – she is the Beneficial mare, Dares to Dream out of a half sister to the top class hurdler/chaser, Mister McGoldrick. She looks very like Bertie Blake, being by the same sire, and we have loved her from the day we bought her as a foal from Goffs in minus 8 temperatures! 25% of this filly who is rising 3 is for sale, and she is special mares propspect.

The flat yearlings  are all  fully broken now and after being cantered away they are having December off as time to grow and mature, it does them to good to have a break mentally as well as physically.  The Josr Algarhoud 2 year old is being broken in though (he will be one of next years bumper 3 year olds and he is a very nice horse)  as is the Mastercratfstman yearling who has been gelded and bought to stay on the yard.  He will be kept back to make a 3 year old and is one for the future.

Chloe’s Image left the barn today, she has gone to a wonderful home with Beth Hutchinson and we hope she can make a successful second career as an eventer with her once she has had the winter off, she was proving too difficult to keep sound for racing. Chloe is pictured here on the left in her new stable complete with two tasty licks to keep her busy. She is a very lucky mare and we couldn’t wish for her to have found a better home.

Call it On has settled in  well to his new home with Lori from Glasgow…what

Call it On

a view he has from his arena turnout. Just another of the fab homes we have found our retired horses this year.
