Tuesday’s news

It is pouring down at Castleton as Phil has set off to work, the ground is going to be soft at Uttoxeter for Courtown Oscar tomorrow, real NH winter ground if this continues and its set to rain there all day tomorrow. James Reveley is coming in this morning to school him over fences ahead of his chasing debut tomorrow. He has previously won a point in Ireland and he is a great big chasing type so we are looking forward to seeing him over the bigger obstacles. I am hoping to add this schooling session to my new video later today, the ipad has gone to Middleham.

We have had placed results over the last few days, both Cathedral and Perennial making the frame and showing good improvement. Rocky Two will drop back in trip next time after fading in the closing stages, all three runners are fine.

Phil has made entries for Rumble of Thunder, Up the Bees and Stopped Out later this week and all want some give  so its looking good for them taking their chances. Its been a while since we saw Up the Bees run but he is in great order and is pictured here with Assistant Trainer Simon Olley.

Pickworth’s lovely ‘Scorpion’ colt foal

We went to see the foals over the weekend and Phil trimmed the mares, Pickworth has a very smart colt with the most lovely head, and Eppie’s foal is a real monkey with great long legs and we can already see he closely resembles his full brother, Avidity. I hope to bring more news of Royalty’s foal today when I am ringing for a progress report from the vets. Marmot Bay will be the first mare with foal back  to Dibble Bridge and she is coming later this week. Phil rolled all the fields here yesterday before the rain this week, they are looking good.

Partnership News.

We were excited to notice that our Shades of  Grey Partnership filly’s 2 year old brother ran for the first time last week and was just pipped in a hot Curragh maiden, the winner already having the benefit of an outing. The colt is called Mint Chai and we will be looking for his next entry with great interest as he got a good write up and ran on really well in the closing stages, recieving an RPR rating of 83.

Mint Chai in second, closing fast. The winner is entered in the Listed Lily Agnes stakes at Chester on Wednesday

Our filly who has been called ‘Enlighten Me’ is growing into a gorgeous looking yearling, tall and scopey and being by the top class two year old, Sir Prancealot, she looks an exciting two year old for next season. Shares in her are just £1000 all in until the end of 2016 and she can be viewed at Castleton this Spring and Summer. We are also giving her an outing at Hambleton Show on the 24th May, an interesting experience for her and i expect her to do well in her class as she is so well grown and striking.

Kelly with Next Edition

Next Edition shares are selling nicely, we have a few remaining with him and he is at Middleham in full training for the flat, we expect him to reappear later next month. The other remaining Partnership with shares available is the PKR Pship with the Kayf Tara filly , she is a well bred prospect and in work for a late summer bumper debut. I will be bringing a video of her shortly.

Ex Racer News: two of our former horses ran in points over the weekend, preachers Belle who made her debut for Graham Scantlebury and Lucky Sun who finished a good second, i have been sent photos of both and its great to see them looking well.
