What a day for the Team, three runners, three winners and now I am very glad to further update the news page with congratulations to Robin Ellerbeck with his home bred mare, Bedale Lane who just like our other two runners, eased into the lead down the back and was always in command. Phillip Dennis gave her a positive ride and it really paid dividends the mare also showing the benefit of a recent run at Wetherby to blow away the cobwebs.
We wish we had backed them all in a treble! This is a great Christmas present for everyone, our Team at home who have worked so hard over Christmas, our Owners who gave been patient with these nice young horses, and for Phil who will be able to relax this evening, happy that the horses have run so well! We have had a quieter time a few months back as will always happen with yards, it’s inevitable, but with the horses back to form theses past few weeks it’s all systems go again and tons to look forward to. Not least Lady Buttons next start which may be Kelso!
Earlier Update: It just gets better! Two runners, two winners, Istimraar makes it a special day for The Grech family with a wide margin win at Sedgefield ridden by Adam Nicol. What a polished performance from the 3 year old who made the most of his juvenile allowance and looked thoroughly genuine as Adam could do nothing but coast into a lead down the back.
He jumped really well and I wonder if he could make up into a Fred Winter horse at the foot of the handicap now? Now all need is Bedale Lane and Phillip Dennis to make it a treble, I have really picked a bad day to be ill and not go racing.
Tempering all this good news I am just now very sad to report that it looks as though little Embsay Crag has suffered a very bad injury at Wetherby, it doesn’t look good for him. We no longer train Embsay as he recently moved to Mickey Hammonds with the horses that won’t be coming with us when we move. but he was a wonderful horse for us the last two years, and it was awful to see this. Our thoughts are with his Owners.
Earlier update……What a great start to our Boxing Day – Hail the Brave wins at Wetherby for Junco Partners, Ontoawinner, keith Foster and Steve Bocking. James Reveley gives him a great ride, going to the front a circuit out and he jumped beautifully throughout, clearly relishing the extra distance and better ground. He went off at 10-1 so this was a really pleasant surprise, but our horses weren’t right in the Autumn and quite clearly they are back to form now. Hopefully Istimraar and Bedale Lane can follow this up! I am reporting at home, not feeling well but managing to get myself off the settee to ride a finish on Hail the Brave, not that he needed the help.
