Tuesday’s news

It has rained non stop all day at Castleton but we need rain at Wetherby for Lady Buttons participation in tomorrows 2m 4f novice hurdle and she will not be risked on good-firm ground if it does not materialise. We have been looking forward to her debut for weeks, but this also looks a fairly hot novice and she is 4th in the betting  with some nice horses also declared.

Adam schooled her this morning and you will see her hurdling nicely on the video  below – Phil took all these clips on his iphone this morning, but the first clip in the fog was taken last week – an amazing scene.

Just Cameron looks to be jumping particularly well on this video, he is so bold and will be going novice chasing. Pass Muster is being schooled by Julie Heneghan who looks after him every day, he jumps really smoothly for her.  Also featured is new horse ‘Cathedral’ and the good looking ‘Oscar O’scar’  who won’t be far off a run.

Today saw a promising run in 3rd from Lady Marmello (33-1)  at Newcastle in a competitive handicap. This was her first start for us and she travelled smoothly and ran on willingly though hung to her left a little. It was her best effort for some time and she can hopefully build on this and win before the end of the season as she copes well with give in the ground.

Istimraar was second at Sedgefield on Monday which is his best run to date over hurdles, although Triple Eight ran rather flat and he hasn’t yet transferred his flat ability to the jumps. Istimraar is pictured centre in this good yard shot from Mick Atkins.

It was a busy weekend for the Kirby family with our two daughters riding at Horse of the Year Show. No top placings but they both absolutely loved the experience and i have feeling they will be desperate to qualify next year now!

 

Phil was back from the NEC and on to Newmarket for day 1 of Book 2 of the yearling sales on Monday. He didn’t buy as there was nothing he liked enough in budget so he worked the horses  today and is back to Newmarket on Thursday for the last day of Book 2.

 

Its frustrating for all in the Dibble bridge Partnership that Next Edition has suffered a setback and is back at Dibble Bridge on restricted exercise. He has been walking out in the pen and would much rather be back at Middleham cantering. Its the same for fantastic old timer Goldan Jess who has had yet another short but memorable season in 2014, winning the most valuable NH race we

have lifted to date – at Cartmel and only going down to the outrageously well handicapped TEAK next time back at the same track, despite having top eight and giving it lumps of weight (Teak has won 2 more since). Jess wasn’t going to stand up to any more runs this year without risking his legs so its home for a winters break for him and back into work next March for hopefully another good  summer when he will be 11 years old. Kyle James is his biggest fan and he will be looking to land another big one at Cartmel on his favourite horse.

We have plenty of horses entered up for the weekend, including the 2 year old fast Company colt ‘Splash of Verve’ making his all weather debut at Wolverhampton.
