Wednesdays news

Followers of the yard may like to watch this video taken last week – i realise i am currently loading up videos to youtube that do not allow access from a tablet, just a PC. I am taking steps to sort this out if i can.

It was the saddest of days for the yard yesterday as we lost our first horse at the races. Bringing home the waggon empty  was an awful experience : we have been dreading it happening. Thankfully Kyle was none the worse for the horrible fall, but it was gutting for him to lose one of his favourite horses, Ancient Times (Oz).  He will be missed a  lot by everyone at both yards, and we are very sorry for his owners, L& D Interiors. Thanks to many of you who have emailed in  with your best wishes. We had not long watched the superbly talented Our Connor lose his left at Cheltenham in the Champion Hurdle – very much the downside of racing.

Oz came to us as a 3 year old and throughout his 4 years with us he had been a total gentleman to have on the yard.  Originally owned by Sheik Hamdam, he had been bred to be top class on the flat, but Oz  found his niche with us as a mud loving front runner , springing over his hurdles and always delivering when on the right mark and  dominating the field. he was barely 15.2hh, narrow and light, but he was athletic and could really jump. We will never forget his bravest of wins at Ayr on the 27th January this year, beating W Six Times  half a length after leading all the way on heavy. He turned the hot favourite over that day and we received many emails afterwards commenting on his bravery. he may not have been the most talented but he was definately one of our toughest, and he will be deeply missed.  Some images we will remember him by:

Todays Runner: Life rolls on and as well as the excitement of Cheltanham we will be heading to Southwell with the 4 year old Sakhee filly, Run Fat Lass Run. You either love or hate the name, but you can’t help like the mare who has settled in really well at Sharp Hill and does all her homework without fuss, she features on the video uploaded above. She hasn’t ran for a year and three months and is entitled to come on for the experience, she is still quite burly but its time to take her to the races and hopefully she can give a decent account of herself. Eva Moscrop rides today, good luck to her and connections.
