OUR RACING CLUB BRINGS YOU CLOSE TO THE ACTION & LETS YOU ENJOY THE 2 CLUB HORSES EVERY STEP OF THE WAY – FROM THEIR TRAINING AT HOME TO DAYS AT THE RACES. WE ENJOY KEEPING EVERYONE UP TO DATE VIA OUR DEDICATED PRIVATE FACEBOOK PAGE AND EMAIL.

‘Our absolute aim, win lose or draw on the racetrack, is that you feel ‘part of our yard’ however far away you live – to give regular videos, audios, interviews and photos to provide ‘year round’ enjoyment – the excitement of racehorse ownership for an affordable outlay.

A quote from one of our Owners,

Thank you Pippa, Sue & Team for all your hard work putting together this exciting new racing club. So happy to be part of it & I can honestly say that in all our years of being involved in racing/partnerships etc this club is the most informative/exciting. The whole Team is so friendly & the horses naturally are gorgeous. Many thanks for letting us be a small part of your amazing yard ‘  Sarah & Malcolm Yull, Owners in the PKR Club

Cost:
The cost to join the club for the remainder of the summer 2021 is £49.00  payable by Bank Transfer or cheque to our Weatherby’s Bank Club Account.  The first starting point was from Christmas Day 2020  – 24th December 2021.  Although in full training, ‘Green Oaks Top Cat ‘ did not run in this period, we decided to wait and run her later in the year.  We began another new 12 month term for summer joiners June 1st 2021 – May 31st 2022 and if you join now this will take you up to Christmas Day and hopefully see both fillies running for you before Christmas.

Ongoing Costs:

This was our first venture into running a dedicated Racing Club, and we set our figure as low as possible, we hope that everyone continues to agree we provide excellent value for money with our horses, contact and accessibility to the yard. Going forwards our next fee in December for 12 months will be set at £69.00 per year and we aim to keep it at that for the foreseeable future. This increase will allows us to improve our yearly welcome packs & our Club Mornings as well as help towards the cost of training two club horses which currently isn’t met by the numbers in the club. As we grow hopefully we will break even!

Our Club is run by a small family committee of Trainer Phil Kirby, his wife Pippa Kirby & Club Coordinator , Sue Heath with help from our PKR office team Anna & Megan, photography by Megan Dent Photography and race & club day hospitality by Issey Gill.

Our postal address is our home yard ‘Green Oaks’ East Appleton, Richmond, North York’s  DL107QE & for all enquiries the email is clubpkr@hotmail.com. Once you have read all about it please email Sue (with no obligation) to receive the official details of how to join and an option to have the welcome pack sent as a gift if required.

What are the benefits of joining?

*Club Ownership of 2 horses during each 12 month term.

THE CURRENT HORSES:

The first horse introduced to the club was ‘Green Oaks Top Cat’ an un raced NH bred mare by popular young Coolmore stallion ‘Soldier of Fortune’ out of ‘Molly Cat’ who in a short career, won a bumper in great style on her debut and was also 2nd  on the flat twice. Phil & Pippa own her first produce, recently named  ‘Green Oaks Top Cat’  ( Molly, after her Mother as a stable name) and have free leased her to the Club. It is hoped she may become a broodmare at Green Oaks if she is successful in her career. She is being aimed at a racing debut around October 2021. The second horse we  introduced to complete the Club Ownership  is a 3 year old filly by Guineas & Derby winner ‘Camelot’ who will hopefully run on the all weather this Winter following win surgery in July. She has been named ‘Happy Go Lottie’ by a Membership vote, and It is hoped that she can now progress having had help to improve her breathing.

*A posted welcome pack to the joiner ( or to the recipient if its for a gift) . This contains a welcome letter, a large colour photo of the 2 Club horses, their pedigree pages & a PKR yard brochure.

* A regular yard newsletter by email.

*Access to a private Facebook page called ‘The Philip Kirby Racing Club’ – this is regularly updated throughout the week with photos, videos, work plans – anything we feel is of interest regards the club horse plus other stable news. We strongly recommend joining Facebook to enjoy the full experience, even if it’s just to access this page ( and our main PKR page) and nothing else. You are ‘accepted’ once you have confirmed membership.

* A weekly email containing photos, videos & news regarding the club horse’s progress or race plans. There will be entries, declarations & informative audios from Phil the night before the race, plus a full report of how he or she has ran afterwards. We recently interviewed Joe Williamson, Conditional jockey & regular rider of ‘Molly’ & it featured on the club fb page.

Here are examples of the recent videos received by her Owners.

*Owners badges on racedays will be picked out of a hat in a random LIVE facebook draw  – even if you own 1 share these will be drawn in PAIRS so that if you wish you can enjoy going to the races as an Owner with your partner/ family member or friend. Results will also  be emailed. If you both own a share you will get 2 chances in the draw to get a pair of tickets. Racecourses differ in the amount of badges they allow clubs, but we will always be pestering for the maximum allowed. If you don’t get an Owners badge you can of course still go racing and purchase a standard badge, but we will also get a number of discounted badges as well as Owner badges.

* There will always be a club representative to meet you at the races and join you in the paddock. This will be Phil, Pippa, Sue or a senior member of our team.

*Photographers links sent by email  if she wins 🤞🏻

* If she / he wins , the trophy and any champagne / framed photo prizes at the track will be distributed  between her Owners present on a quick draw after the prizegiving.

* Two yearly Club mornings at the yard – Our second this year will be Saturday September 11th starting at ten am (arrival can be from 8.45 for parking).   You are welcome to bring a guest and will be able to meet our team, fellow Owners, watch the club horse / horses on the gallops, enjoy the trade stands, socialise  and enjoy an informal morning watching the other horses at exercise, in the stables, and see our mares, foals & youngstock in the fields. We are easy to get to  – less than 5 minutes off the A1 near Catterick in North Yorkshire, 15 minutes from historic Richmond, and right in the heart of North Yorkshire with the Dales on one side just 40 mins away and to the other side an hour to the North Yorkshire Moors & Whitby. We can recommend plenty of places to stay if you wish to make it an overnight or weekend visit . What a great excuse for a racing break!

We have been overwhelned with the feel-good response from our new Owners so far, and have copied some of the lovely messages off the fb page. Hopefully this will give you a taste of what it is like to be involved. Remember you can be a ‘silent’ fb follower or comment as you wish.

A Little background about ‘Green Oaks Top Cat’

Molly is a 16.1hh 4 year old mare bred to make a National Hunt performer. She has a substantial frame, correct conformation and good movement with the size & scope to make a future hurdler & chaser. She closely resembles her dam, ‘Molly Cat’ who had a brief but successful career. For many, enjoying her journey from young unraced horse learning the ropes to hopefully becoming a successful racehorse is a real bonus, and we aim to bring you as much footage of this as we can – from outside gallops before her first race to those first schooling sessions over hurdles when the time comes for her to learn to jump.

Her sire is one of Coolmore Ireland’s most popular young NH stallions, Soldier of Fortune.

A LITTLE BACKGROUND ABOUT ‘HAPPY GO LOTTIE’

Lottie is a beautiful looking 3 year old filly by top stallion Camelot and she has the most lovely nature. We know she has won the hearts of her Club Owners! She is out of a dam who won on the flat and was placed at Listed level in France. Phil bought her as a foal and held her back from racing as a 2 year old as he felt she wasn’t mature enough. Lottie has ran twice for the Club as a 3 year old this summer but was not placed and on the second occasion it was thought necessary to have her wind checked at the vets. She underwent a full wind procedure and she will back in training this month (August) to see if this can make a difference to her appearances at the racecourse. We will be realistic, and if Lottie can be competitive at a lower level and enjoy her racing, then she will continue as a Club horse, she enjoys her in training work and we feel that if the wind is now right then we have a chance. If this isn’t ultimately successful in allowing her to breathe well at the end of a race, she will be responsibly re-homed with a full PKR loan agreement and another new horse introduced the the club. All Club members will be told where she has been homed and will be able to follow her progress as an ex racer in a new life. She will always remain the property of PKR, we do not sell our ex racers on! No rush decisions will be made but we would love you all to have a horse capable of winning at the races and this will remain our goal.

What isn’t included when you become a PKR Club member….

A share of prizemoney

A share of horse proceeds if sold as a top level racehorse or broodmare (we do not sell our retired ex racers on) . If for example one of our fillies won the Champion Hurdle ! (well we can dream) then maybe as a family decision we may need to sell them as a broodmare once finished racing…A very nice but also unlikely scenario that we likely won’t have to worry about! Those of you who know us at PKR know that we rarely sell any of our own horses, we prefer to bred them and race them ourselves and ultimately find them permanent homes. This policy just covers all eventualities in the event that we end up with a Dawn Run.

PKR CLUB MERCHANDISE

THIS WILL BE FOR SALE AT THE OPEN DAY ON SEPTEMBER 11TH. We can post if you cannot come, pp at cost.
