Wednesday at Kempton & news

Today’s runners…

Thank goodness for the AW at the moment, it is keeping ‘the show on the road’ so to speak, and we have the three runners down there tonight, all with each way chances. Iconic Belle Is our first runner of the evening, and she drops back in trip for this fillies event. We haven’t had her at Kempton before, but she has shown good right-handed form at Musselburgh and Perth over hurdles, and Kevin Stott rides.  WP ran  a couple of days ago on the all-weather at Lingfield, he seems grand at home and  although you never know whether this will come too soon or not, it was worth having a go while he is in good heart. He was a staying on second at Lingfield, only beaten by the favourite.

MissScarlett runs in the same race as WP, she is a strong stayer, and she also ran her best race for us to date on her most recent appearance at Southwell.

We had 2 thirds yesterday, Glory of Paris third at Southwell and Romeo Brown just beaten for second in a very strangely run jumpers Bumper where the winner shot 50 lengths clear and no one tried to catch it until it was too late. Ross on Romeo was in ‘no mans land’ as he likes to be held up and come with a late run – it was in effect like two races !  Show Promise ran a solid race in his 2m 4f bumper, travelling smoothly before just keeping on one pace for 5th, it’s been a long time since he has ran. He may run in another of these while we wait for the the ground to dry up, as will Romeo Brown, he deserves to win one!

It did nothing but snow heavily yesterday and felt absolutely freezing –  today it is raining and the snow is melting, leaving floods all over North Yorkshire. The forecast isn’t great either, February is proving to be a very challenging month for everyone in this game.

Phil took ‘Little Bruce’ very early to the beach yesterday – he is entered in Saturday’s valuable Edinburgh National in which he was 3rd last year. Due to the recent abandonments it looks a tougher event than ever this time and we are in the hands of the weather gods if it is or or not.
