Newcastle & Newbury…

We are glad to have another day of jumpers bumpers on at Newcastle today amidst the horrendous weather conditions for racing at the moment. They are great for keeping the horses that are due a run ticking over whilst also providing the opportunity for some prize money too. We have 6 up at Newcastle and Another Theatre making a solo trip down to Newbury for the mares hurdle.

Todays Card :

Wynyard Icon will have come on a lot for her first run here last month and has a tongue tie added to help her along today, ridden by Ross Chapman. She is joined in the same mares NHF by Big Ears who is making her debut appearance following the failed attempt to get her here last time when she was victim to the crazy weather creating such bad traffic that she unfortunately didnt arrive at the track in time. She has done plenty at home and we hope she gets a nice introduction to racing today in the hands of Joe Williamson. Pennine Cross is a previous bumper winner so could enjoy todays jumpers bumper with Tommy Dowson on board, although todays race does look to have a few in it who may prove a little too competitive – as they all are with the jumpers bumpers being hugely popular. Little Bruce also with his usual partner Tommy may find the lack of jumps a refreshing change as he is always game for anything and isnt our slowest work horse by a long way, so it wouldnt be a surprise to see him getting involved as he always tries his best. Romeo Brown lines up with Little Bruce and he was only beaten a length in his jumpers bumper here this time last year so is another who could really take to todays race under Ross Chapman. Last up at Newcastle is Niven, he ran a good race here over C & D nearly 2 weeks ago (at the meeting Big Ears missed out on) so if still in the same form which he appears to be at home he may well find himself in the frame at the finish under Tommy Dowson.

Big Ears – Big Debut today!
Wynyard Icon – joins Big Ears for the mares NHF.
Kind boy Niven.

Another Theatre is our last runner of the day in the mares hurdle down at Newbury. She won very impressively by 18 lengths on soft at Southwell over 2 miles in December so should handle todays testing ground. She could be up against it a little today though with the progressive looking Panic Attack of David Pipe and a few other hot looking rivals of the usual competitive sort you find down South. Having said that, its not beyond her by any means and if she enjoys the track we will hope to see her up there, ridden today by Sam Twiston-Davies. We wish our runners, riders, owners and connections the very best of luck for a great day and a safe return for all.

Yesterday…. We saw a very pleasing, much improved performance by Misscarlett. Just missed out on 2nd at Southwell by the hair on her nose under Rossa Ryan, beaten only 3 lengths in all. Great to see the horses hitting some form for very patient owner Joyce Porter.

Misscarlett – an encouraging 3rd at Southwell.
Daniella & Get Real – very soggy here at Green Oaks today.
Barley Breeze looking good with some flatwork under Sammi.
Sexy Beast – Aiming for staying flat h’caps & Novice hurdles this season.
Dark Zeas – soon to be out for the flat season.
Green Oaks Top Cat – Our first horse of the newly launched Philip Kirby Racing Club.
Army’s Dream of Wasps Racing Syndicate.
Katie & Joe in the winners spot at Lingfield with First Glory on Monday.
Top Cat ordering a stiff Gin!
