Philip Kirby Racing

Racehorse Trainer based at Richmond, North Yorkshire

6th Jan…

Yesterday…..

Alsvinder put up a great effort for 3rd at Wolverhampton making the best of his poor draw on the widest outside under another top ride for us by Ben Curtis. Looking a picture of health and beautifully turned out for yet another Best Turned Out prize for Katie, its sure to have made the drive home a little sweeter. Alsvinder (above) now proudly sports his purple personalised paddock sheet which Kirby daughter Indy received for Christmas with matching blinkers. Indy is a devoted follower of the sport and will no doubt be snapping at dads heels to take over one day!

Winning Sunday

Ravenscar & Ben Curtis.

It was a good days racing at Southwell with Ravenscar winning on only her second flat start under an excellent ride from Ben Curtis for owner James Hall. Hopefully more to come for her in 2021. Also on Sunday we had Epsom Des Mottes making a brave effort for 4th with a superb round of jumping under Ross Chapman carrying top weight on heavy ground.

Epsom looking smart with Victor at Catterick.

Kempton Tonight…

Todays trio of runners head to Kempton, Juriste takes on his second novice under Shane Gray and is likely to be seen at his best when moving into handicap company. Stargazer and Kangaroo Valley are in the competitive 2m class 2 h’cap. Stargazer may still be struggling with being a little high in the ratings but will be trying his best as always under Adam Kirby. Both newcomers to Kempton, with it also being Kangaroo Valley’s first try on the AW ridden by Luke Morris. Best of luck to the three of them and we wish all a safe return.

***NOW SOLD***

Golden oldie Simply Smashing deserves a mention, our Durham National winner turned 21 this year. Known ironically as ‘Tiny’ to his friends, he was one of our original NH horses we set out training with and was a real all time fav of mine (Sarah). Loved his trips to the beach, sure he would have set off swimming if i had asked him to! He was no speed machine, but a serious marathon runner, the further the better, and was very much the gentle giant with a lovely temperament. He now lives a quiet life with Julie Jools up in Scotland amongst a selection of ponies, ducks, dogs and other hairy friends. We are so glad that he has the nice retirement home he so much deserves.
