Catterick winner – a day of highs & lows

South Terrace wins for The Vacuum Pouch Company

An unusual day… but the main thing all horses & jockeys return safely. A very nice winner at Catterick in the Novice for South Terrace, he has built on his previous two novice starts and it looks as though this quicker track and Slightly better ground played to his strengths.  By Fame & Glory, this past pointer winner has a good future ahead of him judged on this performance.  Video to follow.

In the next we saw bad fall for Tommy & Lord Torranaga but thank goodness they are both bruised but ok. Tommy got a nasty kick in the head from a horse that was behind him. The hat took the impact and Tommy will be back in the saddle very soon.

Fille d’Avignon

On to the Mares novice & Fille d’Avignon is such a beautiful mare but is just not showing us anything in her races and again got very tired on her second hurdles start. This has been so frustrating for us and her Partnership because she was a well bred store and a lovely sort to boot – sometimes they just don’t read the script! For certain they can’t all be winners and she now has a break to see if the sun on her back in the Spring can make a difference.  We finished Catterick with Epsom Des Mottes a NR late on.

Over at Newcastle we had 5th in a competitive handicap for Burrows Seeside & he now goes into his well earned Winter break. Winfola showed us a little more, travelling with enthusiasm for Joe,  and Autonomy was ring rusty after almost 2 years off the track from injury. It was certainly a day of highs and lows, much how racing usually goes. It’s a funny old game to be in and despite the luckily amazing days we enjoy , its a quite exceptionally stressful life we live.  Phil’s gone to bed for an early night ahead of a ‘before dawn’ drive to Kelso tomorrow…. and the rollercoaster just goes on …..It’s a high speed train you can’t jump off for a few hours yet juggle it all with a busy family life and the horses back at home that also need every bit of care and attention wether they are running or not! Plans & entries to make, outside gallop trips to plan, work mornings to organise, happy Owners, disappointed Owners, emails, updates, WhatsApp’s, texts, websites, phone calls …all part & parcel of the job! Thank goodness for our hardworking team as well. Every single person plays their part in our hardworking team 👏
