Wednesday at Catterick

We’ve a busy evening ahead at Catterick starting with Fircombe Hall in the opening nursery at 4.30, Ben Curtis jocked up and this colt had pleased us on his opening start but needs to show improvement now in handicap company. He’s tough and sound and we are sure there are races in him. We’ve actually a number of solid each way chances this evening, and we’d be very hopeful that Madeeh could build on his Beverley 3rd after coming from a long way back last week. Alsvinder has shown good form here in the past and it’s dried up since his last start which can only help. This will be our first days racing with Victor & Katie sharing the role as Travelling Head Man & Travelling Head Girl as we said goodbye and good luck to long time member of staff Julie Heneghan on Sunday. Julie has left to take up a Head Girl position at Mickey Hammonds, a new challenge and one which we are sure she will enjoy. We put together a video tribute which we hope you enjoy watching.

Top travelling team!

We also said goodbye to Apprentice Jockey Nick Barratt- Atkin this weekend, he heads to the dedicated flat yard of Michael Dodds and we’re sure he’ll be riding his first winner very soon. Nick has gained valuable experience with us having 45 rides and about ten 2nds, so he is well overdue a winner. A big character, he’ll be much missed by his friends in Hill Crest and they gave him a memorable BBQ send off on Sunday night. Nick’s video is just being made while I am at Pony Club Camp, the signal is not great but it will hopefully be on the website and fb pages by later this evening.

The young Kirby duo of Indy & Liam are having a great time on Freddie & Ginge and learning plenty of riding skills at our first and hopefully only ‘socially distanced’ 3 day Pony Club Camp – always a memorable event in their year.

Indy Kirby (11)

Liam Kirby (11)

We have lots of entries coming up for later in the week and into the weekend and I’ll be writing another news post tomorrow with results from Catterick and looking ahead to our next runners.
