Philip Kirby Racing

Racehorse Trainer based at Richmond, North Yorkshire

Tuesday 14th April

We’re making the most of this lovely weather…. Show Promise, Bertie Blake & Fabrication pictured

With plans still fluid as to when flat racing will resume, our flat team is kicking on and the 2 year olds are coming on nicely. Pictured below is ‘FIRCOMBE HALL’ by Charming Thought out of Marmot Bay, bred by Ace Bloodstock.

FIRCOMBE HALL

We have a team of about 15 remaining in work and the rest of the horses are on daily turnout, just waiting for the grass to grow before full turnout. Top Cat amused himself over the weekend  getting to know some of them better.

Another couple of canters and the newly broken 3 year old NH horses will be ready to go out and grow up for the next 6 months. The videos below show our homebred Presenting filly who is now Owned by the Team Kirby P’ship.  She’s doing everything nicely and had her first school over poles today.

Phil is keeping his hand in with the shoeing and keeping busy being a Farrier again here as well as a Trainer / tractor driver / digger driver /muck spreader! Simon has kept busy, amongst many jobs, maintaining the carpet track with Henry plus the long reining & breaking in of the young horses with Henry, Will, Sammi, Katie & Victor . Breaking in just about complete,  Victor is now fixing the broken fence rails, there is always plenty to do with 100 acres on site.

We’ve even gone all ‘Good Life’ at the yard and bought four hens for the back garden….it’s certainly been a great family time here with the enforced ‘lock down’ and we couldn’t wish to be anywhere else…. it’s the ultimate pony mad children’s paradise.
A bit later than in previous years, we’re right in the thick of ‘broodmare time’  and Helen Wood & Lady Westerner have now gone to stud to foal, we can’t wait to bring you news over the next few weeks. There are just a small number of shares available in the impending foal due to Lady Westerner and we hope to bring his/ her Owners those precious first few moments on camera – an iPad and tripod for the corner of the stable has accompanied her to stud. It’s so exciting to have a foal coming by BUCKS BOUM, a full brother to the exceptional Big Bucks and sire of Al Boum Photo.

Lady Westerner with 3 weeks to go!

Helen Wood, 5 days to go….

We are over the moon with this beautiful bay colt out of Musikhani born last Thursday. This time the Sire is a top show pony stallion so hopefully he’ll be a future showing star for our girls.

One day old, Musikhani’s bay colt foal

Our guess as to what they will have …. only for fun

We think Helen Wood will have a filly, Lady Westerner a colt, Skid a colt and Lady Chloe… sitting on the fence, not just sure! Next to foal SHOULD be Ace Bloodstock’s SKID in the next week, Skid is a half sister to Swiss Roll, the dam of Tiger Roll. Helen Wood is due around the 19th, Lady Chloe around the 21st and finally Lady W who is due May 3rd.

And finally, something to make you smile if you enjoyed our Green Oaks Grand National… here is our chaotic training and ‘out takes’ video. As you can see, it certainly wasn’t plain sailing 🤣 if Timeform could rate Sukey she would definately  have a double squiggle next to her name.
