Friday at Musselburgh & Newcastle winner
Its brilliant when everything goes to plan and that’s exactly what happened yesterday on the AW as smart 5 year old ICE PYRAMID improved just as we hoped he would following his pleasing comeback last month at the same track. Getting a nice lead into the race, Paul Mulrennan didn’t have to get too animated to ask him to go about his business and settle the race, coming nicely clear in this 1m 4f 0-75 event. He looks an exciting middle distance /staying handicapper for 2020 and although bought to go hurdling, he’ll remain on the flat for the immediate future to see how far he can progress. By New Approach, he has a classy flat pedigree, originally costing £160,000 as a yearling and a half brother has cost over half a million. Bought as a once raced 3 year old for considerably less than that by Phil at Goffs Doncaster for Owners, Bill Fraser & Adrian Pritchard, they look to have a talented young horse on their hands.

On to today and although we have two runners we could only potentially have one winner as we run both mares in the same race at Musselburgh…
It’s not the strongest looking mares novice and Phil felt it was too good an opportunity to miss not being double-handed. There wouldn’t be a lot between them at home – Winfola gets 6lbs from Dieu Benisse but the older mare has won over hurdles and brings more experience to the table. We’ll be delighted if they both run well and given that it’s Winfola’s debut and Dieu Benisse fell last time, safe clear rounds are first and foremost on our wish list this afternoon. They run in the 2.25 and best of luck to all involved – Winfola is running for her new ‘Silver Linings’ Partnership and a good number of them have made the trip up North to watch their beautiful new grey mare. Issey Gill is Leading her up, her parents have a share and as she rides her at home most days, she’ll be watching nervously .
