Lady Buttons wins her second Listed Mares Hurdle at Wetherby under Adam Nicol

The rain poured all day but it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the Yorkshire Crowd who gave Lady Buttons a tremendous reception after winning her second Listed Mares Hurdle here, this time sponsored by Bet 365. Pictured here being led in by Jennie & her Owner Jayne, she once more reminded us why she is the jumping Queen of the North! Adam was delighted to be back on board following his long spell on the sidelines, and they made it win number 12 together – always travelling supremely well before jumping to the front at the second last, coming clear and just idling half way up the run in.

There was plenty of purple and white in the Winners Enclosure to support Buttons, we hope you enjoy these photos from her win and we will post the video later today. We are pleased to report she also won the Best Turned Out award for Jennie.

Following on from Buttons we had Top Ville Ben in the Charlie Hall Chase for The Harbour Rose Partnership – stepping up into the highest rank with older more experienced rivals and although he jumped fantastically well out in front for Sean, he couldn’t just find off the home bend and kept going for an honourable 5th. There will be some improvement for this first run of the season and what pleased us most was the way he jumped and how it held up under pressure once passed. He has plenty of options including The Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle at the end of the month, Phil will be considering all avenues for him and he seems grand after the race. He could quite easily make up into a Grand National contender.

To round off the card we had Romeo Brown and Sakhee’s City to face the mud and the rain in a big field competitive handicap and the older more experienced ‘Sakhee’s City’ coped with it much the best, running a mighty race to come 2nd to a well handicapped rival. The Racing Post reads…

We were so pleased with this effort from ‘Sam’ who has been with us since a 2 year old, he has always been more than capable when getting the right ground conditions and hopefully the handicapper does not react too harshly as he was badly handicapped all last season. Keith & Jayne we’re delighted with him – another purple and white runner to celebrate 🎉 Romeo did not handle the conditions and nor did Oak Vintage in the first, there will be better days ahead for them.
