Weekend Round up

‘Archiposs’ who will bid for win number 3 at Doncaster next Saturday

It’s been a quiet weekend on the runners front but certainly not the work front – our NH Team are still in full swing but our flat horses are having the finishing touches put on them before the big start at Doncaster next Saturday. We’ve had a winner on the opening day of the flat the last 2 years courtesy of Archiposs and he will bid to make it a hatrick as he reverts to the level after a winter of novice hurdling.

Phil & our team took ten horses to gallop at Newcastle on Tuesday, a mixture of flat and bumper runners, and it should have put a lot of them spot on for their upcoming assignments. SOUTH SEAS is our well documented hope for The Lincoln, and he is looking well, as is STARGAZER who has the All Weather staying Championship at Lingfield over Easter as a target.

Add to the mix the newcomer, ALSVINDE who Phil claimed on Friday night from Newcastle – a 98 rated entire who has won ten of his 32 career starts to date, an  impressive strike rate at any level! He is a 6f specialist and he has been bought by two existing Owners to share for a summer that will take in plenty of racing at Chester. Other flat horses who will be ready early are ‘Misscarlett’ ‘Bahkit’ ‘Rayna’s World’ ‘Staplegrove’ ‘Pumaflor’ ‘The Resdev Way’ ‘Mr Carbonator’ ‘’Shine Baby Shine’ & Fingal’s Cave’ .

Of our bumper horses ready to make their debut or indeed run again in a bumper, we have a good number –

‘Dares to Dream’ ( Aintree bound) ‘Desaray Girl’ ‘The Flickeringlight’ ‘Misu Bula’ ‘December Second’ ‘Show Promise’ ‘Lord Rococco’ and in the coming weeks, Diaspora, Pennine Cross, Bertuzzi and the homebred, Abington Park.

Next season we are really looking forward to  the National Hunt bred 4 coming 5 year olds – ‘Robin Des Chapp’ ‘Two Thirty Yeat’ ‘Fille d’Avignon’  & ‘Pickworth’s as yet unnamed Scorpion gelding’  ( Twix) who are all cantering at the moment but are just learning their trade and will be going out in the field for a further summer to mature. Take a look at ‘Twix and ‘Robin’ in the paddock at Castleton as colt foals – Twix isn’t a small horse by any means but Robin was clearly always going to be big.

It’s less than 2 weeks until Aintree and it’s a hugely exciting time for all our team.

To be going there with a big Grand National hope is just a dream come true ( certainly for me as I have been Grand National obsessed since a child) – and BLAKLION heads there with a nice weight and obvious course form with a National 4th and a Becher win to his name. He was pictured here yesterday by Sarah with Simon & their son ‘Jack’ having his first racehorse ‘sit on’ – what better horse to get the leg up over. Blaklion is loving being under our superb new SOLARIUM , a valuable new addition to our facilities.

Ond of Blaklion’s biggest fan’s at Aintree will be Faye Shulton, who looked after him for many years at his former yard. Faye has kept in touch and can’t wait to see him again in 2 weeks time as she’ll be there with her stables runners. It is Blaklion’s birthday this week coming and she tells me she has sent him some special treats in the post. To have looked after such a special a horse for so long and to have him leave, you cannot underestimate how sad that can be – we get so attached to them and he was a huge part of her life. Hopefully he can make her proud too in the ‘big one’ and most of all, come home safely for his Owners Darren & Annaley Yates. Ordered yesterday was a special black & gold browband for him to wear on his bridle in the paddock to match their distinctive colours.

Lady Buttons has also enjoyed some time under the Solarium, she is pictured here having a chat with Top Cat whom she was ultra gentle with!

Buttons is likely to run in the 2 mile handicap, The Red Rum Chase at Aintree on the Thursday, she was placed in the Grade 1 Novice Chase there last season, her final run of the campaign, and she has won her only handicap chase run in this season, an impressive display at Newbury.

Others to be entered are our top class Novice Chaser, TOP VILLE BEN who had such a confidence boosting round at Wetherby, our star staying hurdler, NAUTICAL NITWIT who is in fine form at home ( handicap or championship options)   and DARES TO DREAM & possibly DESARAY GIRL in the Mares Championship bumper.

Dares to Dream looking in great shape
