Reviewing the winners
A montage of our 7 winners over the last 5 days
Finally it’s an afternoon off and with the winning videos uploaded to YouTube we can review the 7 horses who claimed top spot plus some excellent performances and placed efforts too.
We’ll create three separate posts so that the videos don’t clog up each post for loading purposes…and start with our first winner on Boxing Day, NICELY INDEED.
This was an overdue win for Nicely who appreciated the soft ground and the relatively easy finish at Sedge with the downhill run before the brief uphill pull to the line. He had been placed on his last three starts and it was always a matter of time before he got his head back in front and Sean Quinlan has built up a good partnership with him. New Owners Alan & Rosemary Jowsey enjoyed a brilliant Boxing Day with their new horse – 50% remains available to buy, and he has become a solid performer who has learnt to settle and finish his race to better effect. It would be great to see him go on and win another this season and it wouldn’t be a surprise.
Next up was the 4 year old Beneficial mare, DARES TO DREAM who Phil and I purchased as a foal in Ireland on a very cold day at Tatts when I remember it was minus 5! Floss stood out to us as a gorgeous foal that day….
Dares to Dream as a foal at the Sales
She took our eye in the Sales paddock and her page was equally interesting, being out of a half sister to Mr McGoldrick. Last year she had the one Unplaced run for experience at Wetherby but was pretty weak. This season she was 2nd on her seasonal debut at Kelso ( a race that has worked out so well) and she had obviously come on a lot for that when you see how she shot clear so markedly at Sedgefield. She is a filly who may have one more run before a Spring Bumper finale and she is a really exciting prospect for her Owners the Long & Clarke families. This proved a double on the day for the excellent Sean Quinlan.
Our final Boxing Day winner was the grey horse, SUGGESTION – back to Wetherby for the scene of his first hurdles triumph and he showed his preference for the course again with a really likeable performance under Adam Nicol. Clearly he is at his best on a flat galloping track and probably better ground than the heavy he had to contend with at Carlisle last time. Suggestion was always travelling smoothly and jumped beautifully up the home straight to boss the race and draw clear. He will keep to this sort of track now and is a horse who should jump a fence in time as he has plenty of size & scope.
