Saturday 25th News

Colin Fletcher with his big winner, Simply Smashing and his other Owners.

Today’s News is dedicated to a wonderful man who very sadly passed away yesterday – Colin Fletcher. An Owner with us for many years, and always one to take the rough with the smooth and come  out smiling.

Phil with Colin at Green Oaks

We always described him as our lucky Owner, invariably if he bought a quarter or a half in a horse it often then won, and he had tremendous success with Goldan Jess & Simply Smashing, and also enjoyed good wins with Improved, Good Time Ahead, Captain Bob, Stormy Morning, Factor Fifty, Next Edition and others.  Colin loved a bet on his own horses and thoroughly enjoyed his racing and being involved as a Owner in our yard. He made many friends amongst our other Owners and those who he went into Partnerships with and he will be very sadly missed. Phil’s journeys home from Sedgefield or Wetherby without Colin’s bags of sweets will never be quite the same! We also had some very good carpets over the years thanks to Colin who ran a thriving carpet business and he loved to come up to the yard and have a chat with our team and see his horses.  Our thoughts are with his family.

Today we have I’m Yer Man at Redcar in the 4.55, a 1m 2f Ladies race with the very capable Amy Waugh on board. He’s dropping to a handy mark and we’d be surprised  if he didn’t run better than his price suggested. Good luck to his Owners 🍀

Superstars ‘Lady Buttons’ and ‘Star Gazer’, good photo by Jenni!

Star Gazer is well into his fitness regime with the Carserawich in October being his big target. Lady B is being prepared again for a Class 1 Listed Hurdle At Wetherby as her most likely early season target. Exciting times ahead and we’ve a whole host of entries next week.
