Saturday April 7th
Exciting News first – we welcomed the arrival of Sarah and Simon Olley’s first baby yesterday – Jack Taylor Olley. Those of you who are followers of the yard know that Simon and Sarah are key members of PKR and have been virtually from the outset. We couldn’t be happier for them.
And now to the racing…. four runners today, three over jumps at Uttoxeter and Man of Verve bidding to double up his Newcastle win at Wolverhampton this evening. All four have chances and the jumpers Hangard, Transient Bay & Aniknam will all handle the heavy ground which we are feeling pretty lucky to get this time of year – it’s essential for the ‘big lad’ Stenna who won here in February under a great front running ride by Adam.
Whatever Hangard achieves over hurdles he’s going to make a decent staying novice chaser next season but this galloping track today will play to his strengths and he’s steadily improving. Aniknam has had a lot of time on the sidelines but again, track and trip should see him in a better light today if he can just recapture some of his past form, he’s not the force of old but the enthusiasm remains.
Lady Buttons schooled this morning ahead of a possible tilt at the Aintree Maghull Novices Chase on Grand National Day. She was electric as usual and it’s a nervous week ahead for Phil and her Owners deciding what to do.
In an attempt to keep Phil’s feet firmly on the ground though, we secured his services for a bit of unpaid Donkey trimming – it’s always good to remind him of his farrier skills!
Some photos from yesterday…
