Wed 15th Nov…

Another very busy days racing today with runners at Ayr, Bangor & Newcastle.

We have Rock of Leon in the first with Tommy Dowson on board again. Its fair to say he is a quirky character with numerous UR’s in his form, but he is also very capable on a good day with 5 wins to his name. Last time out with Tommy at Sedgefield he unfortunately put in one of his characteristic jinks after a fence and left Tommy with his stirrup over the top of the saddle, unable to recover it Tommy pulled out as another jink after the next with one stirrup would have surely met with a bad end. Hopefully today will be a good day and Rock of Leon has got out of bed the right side able to behave himself and show his true talent!

Gracie Stansfield.

Joining him in the lorry to Ayr is Gracie Stansfield in the bumper, also rode by Tommy. This will be her third bumper and she has stayed on well in the finish in both her previous starts, so there is ability to come from this mare and we hope her experience will serve her well and she can improve. Both Gracie and Rock of Leon are owned by Surefire Racing, good luck to them with their duo at Ayr today.

Phil & Lady Buttons.

Lady Buttons is making her first appearance over fences today at Bangor with Adam Nicol on board. Its a Listed Class 1 mares novice chase and she will be taking on some good competition as she always does, but she has schooled amazingly at home and she has very much earnt her place in such a line up. She very narrowly missed her listed race win last time out at the Charlie Hall meeting, only beaten 2 lengths on the run to the line by the favourite. To come home safe is the priority, but this mare very much deserves her big win for long standing owners in our yard Keith & Jayne Sivills.

Mangata runs in the juvenile hurdle at Bangor for his Philip Kirby Racing Partnership and we believe he can put his run at Wetherby behind him as we are happy with his work at home. Some horses take time to adjust to a track full of hurdles and we hope he can get a good round of jumping in today, he has Adam Nicol on board.

Mr Carbonator.

Last, but not least we have Mr Carbonator running this evening on the AW at Newcastle for owners Alan Fairhurst and Peter Sharp. Jimmy Quinn takes the ride again after his good third at Redcar that looked a little too short a trip for him, back up to 7f today we hope will see him go closer.

Good luck to all runners, riders and owners today, and as always – come home safe!

It was Henry’s 20th birthday yesterday!  Megan delivered another amazing creation which the team happily helped him devour!
