A bittersweet day at Doncaster

A Day of triumph and tragedy as Lady Buttons wins in style but we lose the beautiful ‘Episode’ in the last

This post is dedicated to ‘Episode’ and his Owners and everyone at the yard was gutted to lose such a lovely young horse yesterday at the races. He had been with us since a two year old, coming directly from his breeders Mike and Glenda Swinglehurst, and we had trained his older half brother Avidity to win a bumper. Episode known originally  as ‘Dan’ was a bit of a lad as a three year old but had really mellowed as he got older, and Pete who looked after him and rode him at home will certainly miss him a lot – he was a real character.

young racehorse, and when he damaged a tendon at Aintree his group of dedicated Owners (who became Red Cap Racing) were happy to give him the time off he needed to fully recover. It was more than a year and a half later when he reappeared, but he improved in every race, and last month he gave his Owners, Tommy who rode him, and us – a memorable win at Doncaster. This was Tommy’s first win for us and the first for both Episode and Red Cap Racing. It was a bitter blow for us all to lose him in his prime, and its the days racing that nobody wants to experience but is part and parcel of the sport. He won’t be forgotten by his Owners or team PKR, he was a gorgeous horse with a strong will to win very much in evidence at Doncaster in March and he did everyone proud that day.

We now have to look forward to the first racecourse appearance of his half brother Coco who was bred by ourselves – he has a very similar look to Epsiode but blacker, and lets hope he can follow in his two winning brothers footsteps when the time comes. Coco is now a two year old and lives at Green Oaks with his fellow youngsters.
