Its an exciting day with four runners – Lady Buttons & Eastview Boy at Newcastle (thankfully the frost

did not materialise to much) and Good Time Ahead and What’s Up Walter at Wolverhampton – Julie and Katie leaving for there early on this morning. Paddy Aspell rides our flat runners today and we would hope that Good Time Ahead can put in another solid performance although he will find it hard to beat the Mark Johnston filly at the weights – this is a maiden not a handicap and he is not ‘well in’ but his experience should stand him in good stead. Adam rides the two at Newcastle  and both have strong chances,

particularly Lady Buttons who is dropping to a competitive mark and ran well last time before just needing it. We would like to think she could win a couple this season and hopefully this will be the start of it – eventually she should  also make a smart mares novice chaser. Eastview Boy didn’t really get

in a rhythm last time at Wetherby but the ground may have been a bit lively for him and he reverts to a softer surface today. Its a race of in-form novices and it won’t be easy but if he jumps well he should be in the mix.

Most importantly lets hope they all come back safe and sound.

It was a  beautiful crisp cold morning here at Green Oaks – the first day of her new job for 16 year old Jodie Gabriel who joins us from Haslam’s, and she was more than capable up the gallop, riding Man in Black first lot…Jodie has a horsey background and has been riding from a young age – she lives just up the road so the 7am start was something of a sleep in for her after travelling to Middleham every day!

It was a privelege to watch the horses cantering this morning – no finer sight which I hope you all agree when you see the video shortly about to load up. We also had young jockey, Harry Teal in to ride out this morning.

I also think you can sense how happy the horses look,

particularly in the stables, and its something everyone comments on when they come to visit the yard.

The youngsters were definately very relaxed in the barn this morning and looked very content.

The mares are all due to leave us soon to go to stud and foal… Musikani visits Authorized in France, Lady Chloe  is going to Doyen at Sunnyhill Stud in Ireland, Marmot Bay to Darley  newcomer ‘Charming Spirit’,  and Helen Wood to rising star, Blue Bresil at Yorton Stud. First to foal should be Lady Chloe who is due 26th February to Presenting.  Pickworth, due to Fame and Glory, heads to the DBS sales for her oOers on Wednesday and we are sure she will find a good home as she is a lovely well bred mare who has left two colt foals so far. She is that rare broodmare who has won a bumper, hurdles AND a chase.
