Our new 10lb Conditional, lee Cosgrave

I have put a new video on the home page showing the facilities here at Green Oaks.

Its been pouring down here this morning but we have had a brief respite and I took some photos of the horses cooling down in the sand arena – also had a few minutes to talk to our new 10lb Conditional Jump Jockey, Lee Cosgrave.  Lee is 18 years old and comes from Galway in Ireland, just a few minutes up the road from Phil’s parents house in fact. He has had plenty of experience riding in Irish pony races and hunting and has previously worked in a Hunting/Showing/Eventing yard in Ireland.  I asked him which horse he has been most impressed with riding since he came  and he smiled and  replied straight away with ‘this  lad’ – he was riding Factor Fifty who may be heading for a run in France for some nice prize money at the beginning of October. ‘Frankie’ looks in great order and is due a win this year after being placed on his last two starts.  Lee is very ambitious and like all young jockeys, admires AP McCoy greatly. He will be going on his conditional course in October and is looking forwards to his first ride for us later that month.

Apologies to those of you waiting a report of the Yogi Bresiner lesson – its next month! I managed to get the dates wrong.

Arco is a non runner today due to pulling out unsound this morning, hopefully it is nothing too serious.

It may be wet this morning but yesterday was glorious and still 27 degrees at 5pm! We all made the most of this last day of summer and had a ‘team’ BBQ, Phil doing the cooking (for once)  although he said later that he enjoys BBQ’s – at other peoples houses when he doesn’t have to cook! I took this photo of us all basking in the evening sunshine…

Phil and Adam then took up the football ‘header’ challenge – 20 consecutive headers, and they finally managed it after about 20 attempts!

Now introducing the ‘Aqlaam’ 2 year old filly who has been named ‘ Shine Baby Shine’  – we have 2 x 33% of her for sale and Kelly commented that she went the best she has ever gone to date this morning – she is really coming on nicely and is a big scopey filly who will run on the flat this winter at Newcastle ( we haven’t rushed her to run this summer) and next year she will run on the flat and could go Juvenile hurdling as she has plenty of scope about her and a good staying flat pedigree with plenty of black type. Her dam has bred four winners to date including three rated 90 or above on the  flat –  Ermyn Lodge, 5 wins and highest rated at 95, Major Art, rated 100 rated at best & 3rd in Group 2,  Flemish School, 90 rated…The sire Aqlaam unfortunately died as an 8 year old but made a great start to his career with just a short stint at stud, he has sired over twenty  90+ rated performers inc Group and  Listed placed & winners, Moonee valley,  Sea of Flames, Nabbaash etc.  She is beautiful looking and is not expensive to get involved in – please email pippakirby@icloud.com/ring Phil or Pippa  or ring the Office for details with no obligation and we will call you back.
