Friday 22nd May – updated

Update – Aniknam unplaced in France, his jumping let him down.

It was one of those days in racing yesterday that we never want to write about, we lost the young mare, Soeur de Rois at Wetherby, and our thoughts go out to her Owners. She was a really kind, genuine mare who always galloped to the line, and she will be missed by us all at the yard.

Soeur de Rois who we sadly lost at Wetherby yesterday

aniknam We are going all French today…. i wonder if Phil comes back with a french philhaircut like this! I am not sure he will like my photoshop skills but its so funny i wanted to share it with everyone…

Today sees our first ‘across the channel’ runner when Aniknam lines up in the 4.25  (3,25 UK time) at Auteil ridden by Tom Scudamore who is over there riding for David Pipe. We went to France for the usual very soft Auteil ground for this horse and typically there has been a heat wave in France and Phil says its more like soft in front of the jumps and good in between, not the usual surface we expect over there. Still, Aniknam has settled in well and he is third best in on ratings for this £27k first prize so you have to have a go!  he is currently 9-2 on Betfair for this 12 runner race for five year olds.

Phil has sent me these photos, all i can say is it looks amazing and  wish i was there but family life gets in the way sometimes!

Up in Scotland we have PERENNIAL running in the £12k 1m 6f race at Musselburgh at 8.10, Joey Haynes claiming 3lbs gets the leg up on this talented but quirky gelding who hit the front too soon last time  at the same track and just got run out of it late home. Its a step up in class for him today but class has never been an issue, its just if he fancies getting involved in a battle but he has loads of ability and he is overdue a win off a nice mark. Good luck to his Owners this evening, the sun is shining and i hope they enjoy a successful evening at the Scottish Track – he is currently around the 4-1 mark in the betting so holds a decent chance.
