Aniknam battles in great style for James Reveley at Hexham to win on his debut over hurdles. Congratulations to Nojab Ltd with this exciting young horse who can only improve for this first outing. Transient Bay did not handle the very gluey ground and was pulled up by Kyle, although jumped well out in front for a circuit.

The Racing Post Analysis:
ANIKNAM looked held in second taking the last, but stayed on to catch the flagging leader and win going away. Thought good enough to contest the Grade 1 bumper at the Punchestown festival when last seen, he´s a useful recruit to hurdling.It´s High Time was perhaps committed for home a little early, and was caught after the last. He´s done little wrong in his three runs over hurdles to date and this was a decent effort under a penalty. Better ground will probably suit him.
QUOTES Phil Kirby, trainer of Aniknam: He´s a proper horse. He is a brilliant jumper but he didn´t show that in today´s ground.
James rodea treble on the card so proves to be in red hot form. This also proves that after a quiet spell the horses are coming to hand nicely, three recent winners and hopefully more to come over Christmas. We are on 97 now for 2013 and 2014, can we reach the Century before the New Year?

Phil with Aniknam at Punchestown
Today sees two runners in the novice hurdle at Hexham – Nojab Ltd’s ‘Aniknam’ and The Waking Ned Partnership’s ‘Transient Bay’ (Stenna) . Aniknam would have the stronger chance of the pair as Stenna will need 3 miles and a fence in time, and wouldn’t be as sharp as Aniknam, but both have pleased Phil in their recent homework, and we will be hoping they cope with the very heavy conditions if racing goes ahead. Aniknam , by the hurdle winning stallion NICKNAME who has prematurely died but left loads of winners, handled this ground well when he won his bumper at Hexham. His 8th of 12 at Punchestown in the Champion Bumper was in context, a high class run on ground he wouldn’t have wanted – behind him were ‘Some Buckle’ (won a novice hurdle first time out this winter), Seven Nation Army – a top class Pipe bumper horse, and the bumper winning Mullins pair Black Hercules and Aminabad – both also impressive novice hurdle winners this winter. What a race! This will not be easy first time out though, and very much respected is the favourite from Lucinda Russel’s yard ‘Its High Time’ who has had the benefit of two runs already this season, not to mention hurdling experience – and this fitness edge will be a huge advantage in the ground.
Best of luck to connections of both horses and safe return on what is going to be a testing 2 miles.
Stenna pulled up first time out and first and foremost we need a completion today from the big horse, who will need to get a sensible handicap mark for him to be competitive in novice handicaps. Just yesterday I completed this Original Oil Painting of him, which is for sale, as well as a select 20 Limited Edition run in time for Christmas.
