Spincast 2nd at Hexham – updated
A staying on 2nd from from Spincast today at Hexham and a run full of promise on only his second start over hurdles, he looks like he can win a similar event in the coming weeks all being well.
BURNS NIGHT – 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 2nd on all his runs for us this summer. Burns Night is a consistent 7 year old by Selkirk who mixes flat and jumps and is capable of winning again over both codes in his current form! He is qualified to run in the £15k Scottish Stayers Final at Musselburgh on 14th October and this could be the target for new connections, priced to sell – please contact us for more details (01287) 660444 at home.
MYSTERIOUS WONDER Last time out winner, 3 year old by Oasis Dream. An £80,000 yearling – Phil thinks this horse is just coming to himself and was an easy winner last time. he can run on the AW this winter and will be adding to his tally. he is also very competitively priced to stay on the yard, please ring the home number for details (01287) 660444Todays news starts with a word about Phil and his new mobile phone – the iphone and 4G have a lot to answer for. He has gone from a Samsung on 3G to this new phone and it does not seem to have as much reception at Middleham. Phil says “It does everything bar make calls!”
I know it gets frustrating for owners but hopefully by next week the situation will have been remedied and he will be back to a Smasung and he will be easier to contact. Although, out of interest, i was with Phil for an afternoon the other day when he had reception and his phone literally did not stop ringing ALL afternoon. Once he had spoken to one person it rang again, quite amazing, I don’t know how he copes with it, he needs a permanent earpiece round his hat! My brain would be fried. He does in fact stick the top of his phone in his hat quite regularly and was talking to me while cantering up the 3f today!! Please bear in mind if you are trying to call him, he rides out on the gallops almost every morning until 12.
Another positive piece of news – from tomorrow we have Phil’s brother, David Kirby joining the team at Sharp Hill – David will be organising Phil much better than I can and will be in the Office when Gareth isn’t, and also going racing. David is very knowledgeable about racing and is looking forward to the new challenge. With our numbers steadily increasing, his additional presence is going to be invaluable. He is pictured below with Phil in less stressful (but less exciting) days when we went to Ascot to watch rather than have runners! Love this photo…
Good luck to the Bethell family today at Hexham with their bay gelding SPINCAST, he runs in their distinctive pink colours and experienced Amateur, Harriet rides – last time he ran he won (on the flat) , and he has been waiting for safe jumping ground for his next start over hurdles. The track should hold no worries, he handled Carlisle’s stiff hill well last time. He is pictured below in his stable at Sharp Hill.
On Sunday we have an Ownaracehorse Open day – please note those of you who are planning to come, this now begins at 9.30 due to the amount of runners we have at Kelso and Uttoxeter – more of their chances tomorrow.
I am having a good week for re-homing, we have just found a good home for Indian Ruler who ran twice for us but was not just going to be competitive enough to persevere with. He goes to an experienced rider, Helen Simpson to start his re-education – we wish her every success with this lovely 8 year old.
